Hey everyone,
I don't know if any of you have heard of this game. But I think you should check it out if you have any interest in Solitaire games and golf. Yes, I said solitaire and golf.
I read about it on a blog about a year ago and the writer was raving about it. It doesn't sound like it should be fun at all but it is strangely addicting. The game is not complicated at all (it's solitaire after all) but the way it is presented and the little additions to the overall game make it a very unique and very fun experience.
The concept of the game is very simple: clear the board of all cards before you run out of cards you have in your deck. There is slight change in the rules though: you can get rid of a card that is one higher or lower then the card you have facing up and it can be on any suit. So if you have a 9 of hearts face up in your deck, you can get rid of a 8 of clubs or 10 of diamonds (and so forth). It get fun, though, when you get nice runs of something like 8 - 9- 10 - 9 - 10 - J - Q - K - A - K - A - 2 - 3. The longer you "drive the hole" with the cards you take down, the bigger multiplier you get for earning money on each hole. The money is then used to buy various items from the golf shop and to pay course fees.
There are various mini-games during a round of golf (these come from "wild shots") and can change little nuances of the game. For instance, if you "loose your ball" you get a card taken off the top of your deck. If the golf marshall takes pity on you, you can shoot a face-up card to get rid of it. You can also find golf clubs to use during your round of golf so that it becomes the face-up card instead of the one you had previously. Let's say you have a 4 face up but a 5 would be better to knock more cards down from the playing area, use the 5 iron in your bag. Once the club is used it is gone until you get another one. So use them sparingly.
Scoring is easy to figure out. If the hole is a par 4 and you have 5 cards left on the board, well you just a +1 (Bogey) for that whole. Challenges of each course are presented to you in order to unlock the next course. It could be earning a specified amount of money, getting under a specified score, getting a perfect shot (clearing all the cards), etc. Obstacles include sand traps and water hazards (have to clear all the sand trap/water hazards before other cards can be turned over).
And here is the best part: Right now the game is free! So how can you not at least give it a shot. Follow these directions to get the game at no charge:
1. Go to
bit.ly/ouvAx , click the "Buy Now" button and add the game to your cart. You will need to register an account before you can go further.
2. Don't opt for the BigFishGames club deal or any other deal. Once in the cart, it should be for $20.
3. Don't opt for a mailed CD of the game.
4. Once to the checkout page, enter the following code:
FREEFAIRWAY
5. If done correctly, it should discount the game $20 and the game will be at no cost to you. Hopefully the discount code still works. It worked for me yesterday.
From there it is a simple process of downloading a game client and installing the game.
If you do decide to checkout this game, let me know what you think. I have had a lot of fun with it and now my wife is addicted to it as well. And she doesn't even like golf.
