I've been getting into supporting various Kickstarter projects, lately. I found it to be a really cool idea, and the first ones I heard about (Double Fine Adventure!, Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, Moebius) were right up my alley. I realize that not every project is for everyone, but I thought I'd mention Kickstarter for those of you who haven't heard of it, yet.
Basically, Kickstarter is a community-based funding program. People choose to support a game (or any other kind of project) by pledging whatever amount of money they wish, and if the game reaches full funding, the monies pledged will be charged to the individuals. If the full funding is not met, there is no charge.
As an example, Escape Hatch Entertainment is trying to fund "Starlight Inception." Their Kickstarter page is at www.kickstarter.com/pr...nceptiontm . I pledged some money and selected one of the reward tiers, but this Kickstarter only has 10 hours left on it and they're still short of pledges. If they don't get the amount they need, nothing happens and I keep my money. If they manage to get the last bit of funding they're hoping for, then Amazon.com will charge my card for the amount I pledged and EHE will get the money to make their game.
Since Kickstarter's success, I have been noticing other crowd-funded schemes, but you want to avoid those. Kickstarter sends all money to the developer and you are not charged anything extra, nor do you pay if the funding limit is not reached. Also, you will notice the developers using Kickstarter are famous for their quality work.
Anyhow, you all might want to check Kickstarter out. Perhaps you'll find something to interest you?

Have taken a look at the site myself, does look very good and an ingenious way of getting some good games going.
Was taking a look at FTL on there myself, very different that most games out there that i have played but does look fun.
Also some space combat sim games, will be watching them closely, about time we had another freespace, x-wing, i-war type game!

There are all kinds of projects going on over at Kickstarter. Some of the ones I've pledged to have failed to garner the necessary funding and were unsuccessful. Some, however, have done very well.
Among the more famous ones that received the necessary backing were:
Wasteland 2 (self-explanatory)
Shadowrun Returns (self-explanatory)
Xenonauts (a modern X-COM remake)
The Dead Linger (a sort of "sandbox zombie MMO")
Starlight Inception (space FPS game)
Pinkerton Road Studio (Jane Jensen's new development house)
There are some projects that I am currently backing that may or may not achieve the necessary funding. They include:
Dark Meridian (sort of like Nuclear Dawn, only a fantasy setting)
www.kickstarter.com/pr...k-meridian
Conquest 2 (sequel to Conquest, a space RTS)
www.kickstarter.com/pr...fans-unite
Xenonauts (a modern remake of X-COM)
www.kickstarter.com/pr.../xenonauts
Two Guys Space Adventure (same guys that did the Space Quest series)
www.kickstarter.com/pr...-space-que
Portal Reborn (a modern remake of the original Portal--not Valve's game)
www.kickstarter.com/pr...reborn-v20
Tex Murphy - Project Fedora (the next Tex Murphy adventure game)
www.kickstarter.com/pr...ect-fedora
If you folks haven't, already, I urge you to check out Kickstarter. There are some amazing projects on it. The Turrican Soundtrack Anthology, for example, has set a new record (no pun intended) for Kickstarter music project funding.
