I am starting a new semi-annual event to encourage forum dicussions once more and hopefuly, increase activity. We used to come here and talk all day long, post after post. Has that stopped because of the funky post indicators, or have we just fallen to the wayside?
As such, I am nominating the following people for the GCC Community award due to their continued commitment to the club and/or daily activity, and getting all of you gabbing. Please take a moment to vote for your favorite.

This is a community award, not a staff award. Please keep that in mind when voting.

Bah, I got you to post today didn't I?!?! At least you and most of the others make an effort to attend every game meeting I setup
Seriously, you folks need to get off your lazy asses and help me jumpstart this community again! Expecting me to re-invent the wheel alone? DON'T, I am getting old, jaded, and grumpy. Too often these days people seem to be sequestering themselves within one game, and isolating themselves from the community. I am very guilty for doing this with EQ2, but I always made time to come here and be social and a part of this community.
I'm done begging you guys to help me out. Do I have to give the shirt off of my back before people start acting? That just aint right! Henny Penny baked the bread and those that helped got to enjoy it. I am tired of eating sourdough, can anyone give me a recipe for a nice multi-grain loaf?
I am also at my wits-end with greed. There are various levels of this, but let me loosely relate one greedy aspect that wil come to a head soon around here. People whom write reviews for GCC with the sole purpose of going to E3 are in for a sore suprise this year when I remove them from the staff list, and forbid E3 attendance representing us. Anyone that I feel is only here for themselves, will be ejected without warning.
GCC will roll on with or without you. I am just hoping more of you come around and be a part of the community once more. Myself and others work very hard with our own free time to bring this community to you, and we will continue to make it one of the best gaming communities on the net.
Ok, off my soapbox, I am in a mood today.

Hey I'd be up on that auto assault event if it wasn't on Xmas eve and the have to visit like 5 or 6 different households in less than 24 hours. I might be able to make a 10pm showing but no earlier than that.

Well spoken Dragon. Methinks you need to get a little more in touch with your 'dark side' but this is a good start. Hell and if you really want to get a message across, get Max in here. He's been know for his 'Tender' posts.

No, not Smaug's Dark Side, anything but Bane I still report bugs when I see them, and unfortunately I don't have alot of games folks are playing lately. With the Changes to SWG with the NGE, I've been finding myself more engrosed in that. But I still check these forums everyday, and leave feedback on things when I feel its warented or I have something to say on a subject. Yeah, I'm a bit of a recluse, but I'm really not meaning to be I'd really like to see this place jumping like the days of old, so I understand your frustration, Smaug. And you can tell by all the time and other things I've done for GCC, I'm anything but selfish I still get a kick out of checking the download section and still seeing my stuff being downloaded there Too bad I've kinda been in a rut with that as well, but once things settle down for me a bit more, that may change. Who knows
Cloud - out

Ok, I learned something here as a result of this post, made me severely rethink my work here.
Over 80 reads, only 10 votes
Over the Holidays I worked hard to try and jumpstart this community once more, and get us playing together. The only community play taking place lately is in MMO worlds, and it aint enough for nearly 80% of those that WOULD play. Over the last week I was disheartened by several things:
- I asked our EQ2 guild to post and try and stimulate growth by using our forums again. I was immidiately told that I didn't want them doing that, I again made the request, and was pretty much ignored. Shortly after that request, Mortikahn and Taos begin to make "Peanut butter" comments relating the substance to my ideas, and implementation on the site. The reference was to GCC Radio, and Morti wants to see Podcasts. I agree, and we began dicussing ideas. When I made it known I would like to see highlights of gaming news and reviews, Morti said I was trying to do too much, and never asked for help. I saw his point, but also made them aware that I had JUST asked for help, giving specific direction, and was ignored.
- I was looking at the WWW Chrsitmas morning, and found the below post from a former GCC regular, and charter member:
Twisted, I abandoned my years of charter membership/donations with GCC to come and be apart of RBC. www.GameClubCentral.com went through and has done the same thing you’re talking about for voice servers, game servers, sponsorship, donations & kickbacks when you buy from Amazon.com. Please, get in contact with "Smaug" he might be able to give you some tips on companies he has dealt with.
The problem I had with GCC was it started out as a Gaming Voice Club that I couldn't find anyone playing the same FPS that I love. No one wanted to play SOF2! The only real gaming I did was "Moose" ran Nascar Sim Racing in which One Man & I did race 2 seasons. Hence when he got back from the "Gulf". It was just us 3 nobody else showed up! Kind of the last straw for me & GCC.
However Smaug is the owner operator and a hell of a nice guy. Tell him "Paleface" says Hi! if you want his guidance. - Tricky
- I played about 6 games over the holidays alone, and I did create meetings.
As such I have finally given up on trying to get you all motivated on playing together regularly. I do however plan on picking up 1-2 games that are affordable and desireable and will support those fully myself. If people come play with me great, if not, I will know this community is truly a dead horse when it comes to true activity. Oh well, I can keep things running as a PR/News/Reviews site, we are getting 10,000 unique hits a day, so it aint a waste of my time to continue to do so.
Although my heart is aching over it, the above community award is a one-time only deal at this stage. I can't keep affording to keep giving the shirt off my back and seeing no results on the things I truly WANT to see.

Marty, I agree with alot of your comments. I have no excuse for my not playing as many games with community as I once did. Of course, my play time has changed alot from all evenings to 4:00 - 5:00 am so I don't get alot of time online gaming any longer. My work pulled internet access on everyone and I don't browse the boards, post anywhere, or just do research like I used to.
I think most of the old timers are in the same boat - real life has bitten them and doesn't let go.
Maybe we are spread too thin in trying to cover areas and need to reduce some of the perks that you have around here. I'd suggest that we drop the clan supports since most of the time it is a start up clan, we see a new forums, everyone says hi, and then the forums remain inactive.
I don't see how you could compete with the big new sites like gamespot, ign, gamespy without a full crew helping out. I know that you can't do it alone and I don't blame you for being upset. I'm trying to get back into by helping out with the some reviews and I have been posting alot more over the last month (excluding my vacation) trying to spark up more interest as well.
Maybe if you get the staff together and come up with a business plan/vision on where GCC wants to go, ask for help from people or let go those that don't help that you call staff. Maybe make a help wanted announcement for open positions and keep that on the main page for awhile.
I'll brainstorm some ideas as I'm out and about today and post some ideas in the staff forums for you to mull around.
