I've been back in the world of Norrath running around and seeing what was different before the free to play kicked in. The guild VoN appears to be a valid guild still with about 17 members on the roster.
I was looking and it appears that VoN is leaderless and needs to have a petition created to appoint a new leader. Also all of the guild members don't have a recent sign in so I'm not sure if someone wanted to take over the duties.
Anyone looking to come back and play now that eq is F2P?

Evercrack's gone free? Ohh that really is tempting though I'm not sure an Evercrack addiction is really what I need right now.
I think it would also kill my 6-year-old laptop, if I remember the problems I had running it last time around. I wonder if the wife would let me install it on her desktop...

I'm trying to get a handle on what the free account gives you compared to the paid account. Are they running them side by side or are the free players kept on a seperate server?

yes they are side to side. There is 3 levels of play - Free, Silver (one time fee of $5 or a previous purchase), and Gold.
here is the link that shows the chart of what you get. Everquest Free
Smaug, that is the problem. There is no leader so no one can hand over the reins. I was looking at members listing and no one has a leader rank.

Ahh, I was thinking this was about the EQ2 free-to-play accounts, I'd completely forgotten EQ was still running!
I think I have phrased my question incorrectly. Perhaps my question is not so much about the differences, but what the differences mean to me. It's been so long since I've played that I just can't get a grip on what is good or bad for the kind of character I like to play.
For example, being very OCD I tend to craft until my fingers fall off. Does, for example, the spell rank significantly affect that and if so, how far would you need to go before "Rank 1" or "adept" be insufficient?
The best thing, of course, would be to just fire up the game and play! My wife is working a night shift tonight so I might end up taking a heady dose of Evercrack tonight!
The question now is... EQ or EQ2? In fact I wonder if my laptop would handle EQ2...

Yea, I am guessing that is because in the end a bunch of us went to a different guild (Mystic Knights) after most of the guild died down...
Would indeed have to petition it, but I guess that if he does log on, he'd have an easier time getting the guild back, since he was previously the leader.
