The
Game Club Central Story
So you want to know how we got started? Kick back, take off your headset and
let `Smaug take you on the GCC journey......
The story starts back in late
September of 2000. One day while wandering around the store I noticed a new
Microsoft product called Game
Voice. This thing was awesome, and the first of it's like I had ever
seen. Now I could get my Everquest friends to chat live with me while we beat
monsters to a bloody pulp! Verily, I was sucked into this tempting and exciting
world.
Next thing you know I was headin' out of my lair toward the Game Voice forums
to find others which also may have this shiny new bauble. A few trickled in
at first, the numbers grew by a few each day. By the beginning weeks of October
2000 I had posted my first post about
creating a "Contact List Webpage".
The list began, and GCC got it's start originally as GameVoiceClub or GVC. By
this time I had made a few friends through Game Voice and one of them, DJBaby,
was kind enough to offer his help in creating this club. DJ, a very accomplished
web designer, started his hard work and gave me samples almost daily until we
got a look we liked. I in turn began to secure domain names, organize and develop
the concept/content behind GCC, and help support our opening by helping inform
people of our existence.
Well then, now we needed somewhere to host the darn thing! Along came Enigmatic
Wolf, current site operator of www.animeden.com,
a very cool Japanese animation page. Wolf was able to offer us everything we
needed and more. We were rocking! We got our forums up and running, and I handled
posting in the support forums, technical research, and the overall organization.
We opened officially on October 18, 2000. Our first contest took place in November
and we gave away a Game Voice and a MS Optical Mouse. Things were great with
GCC, members were strolling in, meetings being created. In general we had fun!
You can view what the original site looked like by clicking the picture below.

Later there was a small change in staff and the site was completely redesigned
into what you see today. At this time we are currently undergoing another change
to the site, and a facelift will soon follow.
As Christmas approached, we started talking about re-launch date. It looked
like we would be finished on or before January 1, a great New Years present
for the club. Sure enough, GCC relaunched on January 1st, 2001 with a brand
new look and still under the name GameVoiceClub. Next came the GCC Network,
and many game clans were formed and advertised in the club. We even started
offering free hosting for those clans that needed it. GVC then began it's transition
into GCC.
As
the days continued I became aware of the various other voice related options
in the gaming world like Game Commander, TeamSound, Roger Wilco, and Battlecom.
I thought to myself, "Why don't we blow the door wide open to the entire
voice gamer market and cater to the needs of those people as well?". The
outcome of that thought was the rebirth of the club under it's new name, GameClubCentral.com.
Doing this proved to be the best thing we could do for everyone involved. We
added user to user support for a lot of voice applications and started reporting
news of updates and other information for all of them. Since that time in June
2001 when we changed our name, GCC has grown into a very recognizable and respected
name in the gaming industry and our member base is exploding. GCC is committed
to bringing only the best to our members and I would like to personally welcome
you to our community. We are hard at work forming alliances in the industry
to bring you more news, reviews, and exclusive member discounts. Exciting
things are happening here, are you with us? What's
The Catch? That is just
it folks, there is no catch. Plain and simple we are gamers who like to bring
helpfulness and information to this community. Everything done at GCC is accomplished
on a nonprofit basis and all costs are internal which is the reason you don't
see cheesy banner ads on the site. Any and all banners you will see are either
voice clans in our network or GCC affiliates. GCC stands on it's own two feet
by my own earnings, the generous contributions of some members, our affiliate
programs (Like the GC2 club discount), and our T-shirt offer. How long we can
keep this up is undetermined, but we will continue to offer a secure place to
meet other gamers for as long as possible. This means your member information
will never be sold or given away like some game sites do, you have my personal
promise on that. It is often thought that I work for GV because I am so heavily
involved in supporting it. This is completely false and in fact you can find
my name in all of the other voice app forums attempting to help users in a friendly
manner and spreading the word about your club. That is what GCC is about after
all, bringing people and technology together! GCC
