   How To Use GCC

Just get here? Not sure what to with the darn site? Let our friendly webmaster `Smaug answer some of your questions

GCC Contests

For Club Members Only, GCC Contests!
  1. Information

Game Club Central holds contests for members often. So far the prizes have included Game Voice units and a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical Mouse.

Soon we will be announcing more game and hardware contests. The GCC Contest Page will help to keep you informed of happenings, and the Prize Information page will keep track of the treasure horde.

Only Registered Game Club Central members are eligible for contests. Each contest will have different rules, details, and prizes.

Contests will take on various forms at the discretion of myself and the staff. GCC Game Tournaments, Easter Egg hunts, Sniper Shot, and other types of contests are planned. All details will be posted with each contest on the Contest Page and in the main news page.

  2. Official Rules

The Official Rules may vary in some fashion from contest to contest. Be sure you check it for each contest, as I will update them individually.

  3. Winner List

The lucky person(s) for each event will be posted on the Winner's Page within 15 days of contest end. I am hoping to make it a very nice page with contest history and winner listings -- still a work in progress for now.

Forums

Talk, chat, and information in the form of good old fashioned user to user communication.

  1. General

    GCC Connections
will help you to keep informed with the various news/gossip, user to user support (GCC highly recommends that you first visit Game Voice.com Forums first for all y
our technical needs), game talk, and clan discussion.

  2. Forum Registration

Even if you are a registered member of Game Club Central, the member database for the forums is separate, so you will need to register a user name if you wish to post.

  3. Posting

All of your questions about using the forums are addressed in the Forum FAQ. Have fun and express yourself!

I ask for one thing in the forums -- Be respectful to my staff and to other members/guests.

Game Voice Profiles

Custom profiles to maximize Game Voice performance

  1. Information

All of GCC's Profiles are member-created and virus-checked for you to enjoy. All files are compressed using Winzip and credited to original author whenever possible.

  2. How To Download A Profile

Each profile in the GCC profiles section has a "click here to download this profile" statement. Simply click the link and a "Save as" box will come up. Save the ZIP file anywhere you wish and note the location for later. You may download as many of the profiles as you like.

  3. Installing And Using A Profile

Once you have the file on your PC you can unzip it and you will see at least one file (something .swv). Uncompress the .swv file into your Game Voice profiles directory. This is normally C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hardware\Game Voice\Profiles\ by installation default. Then you can load the profile from the Game Voice software.

Please see the "Using profiles" help topic in the Game Voice User's Guide for more information (to access from the software, click Help and then select Game Voice User's Guide). The full User guide is ONLY available from the Game Voice software unless you have printed it out.

  4. Making Your Own Profiles

If you would like to make a new Game Voice profile for a game that does not have one, click here to learn how. If you are in a giving mood, share it with us! Even if we have one for that game already, yours may be a little better suited for someone else.

  5. Submitting Profiles

Game Club Central encourages its members to support each other by sharing their custom profiles with the community. Some members have done some great game profile work! Profile submission can be accomplished by sending it to me here, preferrably in ZIP format. I will try to get it posted in a timely manner.

If you submit a profile to GCC, please try to include a JPG or GIF screenshot of the profile as well. This will help members that cannot use various versions of the profiles to be able to create their own based on your example. If you need a free screen capture utility, you can click here to download one.

  6. Profile Support

The main purpose of this club is not to run technical support. However I do like to inform and help users and I am placing this section here to help you. For formal Profile support visit the Official Game Voice Website and their Forums. I recommend posting your difficulties in the "Voice Command Troubleshooting" forum. The Game Voice Support team is there to help you.

The most common problem worth mention here is when a user gets the dreaded "File is corrupt" message when trying to load a Game Voice profile. This is very common and easily explained. When a "United States English" Game Voice user creates a profile it is unfortunately only usable by those that bought the Game Voice in the US. "International English" users are therefore not able to use the "United States English" profiles. The same restrictionapplies to "International English" created profiles and US Game Voice users.

To solve this annoying problem simply be careful which version you are getting. GCC tries to keep both versions available for members but we of course need your help to do so.
    Good luck with your profiles!

Membership and Database

The most comprehensive Game Voice utility. Learn how to use it and make the most of your membership.
  1. Joining Game Club Central

Game Club Central membership has many privileges that go with it. Online Meetings, Game Voice database, Game Profiles, and other features on the site are available to members only.

When you join us you of course agree to the GCC Terms Of Use and in general agree to be respectful of members and staff. We in turn will continue to attempt to bring you the most exciting site, contests, and entertainment possible.

Joining GCC will start with the submission form. Here you will fill in your information such as Name, Callsign/Nickname, Location, Etc. The Languages and Games Played feilds are both "selection-box" type input, to use them simply click your selection on the left side and then click the "Add" button and your Language/Game gets added to the right side. There is also a "Remove" button here for your convenience.

Unfortunately the way we have things working right now we do not have a write in section for Languages or Games. If you would like to see a specific language or game added to the listing please send me an email with the details.

Once you submit the form you will be able to login to the club using the "Login" button located on the right side of the website.
Here you will enter your Login ID (email address) and Password and click the "Login" button. You can now use the site with full member rights.

If you have any trouble please contact me.

  2. How to Use The Database

This is probably the single most reason you are at the club. Finding other people with Game Voice! Many requests were made to make this feature easier to use and more effective, I hope you enjoy the new features.

When you view the database members you will first see their primary information like Callsign, email, and location, also a "Details" button. In this view you now have the ability to sort the entire database by category.

Simply click the link for each section to sort. For example click on "Languages" to sort by Language. Click "Location" to sort by Location. Such forth and so on for all fields in this view. This should help you find users more quickly following criteria you set. Also see the Search section of this faq as it helps in finding members with common intrests.

By pressing the "Details" button you can view the full member profile for that individual and get more specific information about them. From the view you can get things like ICQ#, Hours of availability, etc.

  3. Editing Your Profile

There are several paths to editing your information like Name, Email, Password, Country, etc.

The first option is located right below the "Logged In As" text on the right of the website. Here you will see your username. If you click on it you will be taken to the profile edit area and can begin your updating. After adding to or changing your profile you will click the "Edit Profile" button to approve the changes.

The second option for changing your profile can be accessed from the main menu, "Edit Your Profile" link, located underneath the "GV Database" menu.

Online Meetings

Online Meetings are designed to bring members together by offering you a place to schedule games/and or chat. Below are descriptions for each aspect of this feature.

  1. Display All Meetings

  2. This will show you currently scheduled events up to 7 days in advance. Most meetings created by members like you looking for others to play games with. This may also include chat topics if you wish.

You will see one or more meeting, listed by date. The name of the meeting is at the the top, who created the meeting and at what time/date, Game/Chat title, and the "Details" button.

The "Details" button will show you more detailed information like meeting time/date, which game, Passport ID/Email of creator, location of meeting creator, additional notes, and other players that will attend.

In this view you may also add yourself to the event. Simply click the "Add to this meeting" button. You will be added automatically to the "Available Players". If you wish to remove yourself you will notice the button has changed to remove, ckick it. Within the Available Players section you can click on any player's email and send them a quick note.

A note to meeting creators: If you are the creator of a meeting and use the "Details" view you will have the option of editing your meeting details.

  1. Display Meetings You Signed Up For

Clicking on this link will show you not only the meetings you have signed up for, but also those you have created. It will display all of your meetings for the next 7 days. This feature should help you to keep track of when and where your meetings are taking place.

  2. Create a New Meeting

Selecting this option allows you to create your own meeting up to 7 days in advance. Simply fill out all of the information and click "Submit Meeting". Please be aware that meetings are time sensitive. If you make a commitment to play a game or chat, please honor that commitment.

You can edit your meeting at any time by viewing the details of your meeting and clicking the "Edit Meeting" button. Once submitted your changes will take place.

Your Game/Chat can be scheduled up to 7days in advance and will be removed from the Online Meeting List at the end of the scheduled day. The reason for the 7 day limit is so that meeting creators and submitted players will not forget their meetings and to keep the database reasonably viewable.

Games forming all the time, join a meeting or create your own today!

Searching

How to use the search function effectively.

  1. Information

Having trouble finiding prople in your country? Want to find all of the Unreal Players? Your wait is over.

You have all asked for increased search capability, well here it is! The searching can all be done from one box on GCC.

Please note the below instructions for using search as it is a very powerful tool and may take a little getting used to.

  2. Using Search

Although search is relatively easy to use, I wanted to take a minute to explain to you how the search engine works, give you some good examples on the advanced searching, and tell you about what you will see.

The current search design matches your input with various database criteria to bring back 3 different search results, "Member Game Matches", "Meeting Matches", and "Member Profile Matches". This allows one click to bring back a whole bunch of useful information. Let's see an example of how it works.

Take the word "Rymfax" and type it in the Search box, hot return. You should see the three search fields come up for the 3 various search sections. You may also want to do a seperate search using a game name
"Elite Force" for example, so you can see how that works as well.

"Member Game Matches" are at the top and are essentially only used when searching by game title. If you type a game in the search window you will see any and all members that have that game in their profile.

"Meeting Matches" are next and will show any and all Online Meetings that "Rymfax" is participating in or has created. This will also show meetings based on your other input. For example if you had typed a game name, it would show all meetings for that game.

"Member Profile Matches" is probably the most powerful search. This area will display almost any information that is in the database. Here you can type "United States" and get all US Game Voice users in the database. Type "Cable" and get a listing of all members that use a cable connection. Type in "French" and get everyone that speaks French. The same thing applies to almost all of the fields in the member database.
